Spurs to bid again for Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur as set to increase their bid for Manchester City winger Savinho, reports Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail. This follows initial reports of an approach on Sunday, which was considered well below City’s asking price.

Distance in valuations

According to Savinho’s agent, Spurs’s first bid for Savinho was around €50m (£43m), with Manchester City demanding around €80m (£69m), a massive gap in evaluations. Spur’s new bid is set to be closer to around €60m, which will still fall well short of City’s asking price. Tottenham are presumably hoping that City will be willing to negotiate a lower price, but the likelihood of this is questionable with just 3 days before City kick off their season. City are reportedly hesitant to let the player go, and will only do so if they believe the money is more than they could reasonably reject. Combining this with Daniel Levy’s general reluctance to around spending big money, especially given here it would mean almost doubling his valuation of the player, and as things stand the deal moving forward still seems unlikely. If the deal were to go ahead, City reportedly have already lined up out of favour Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as their replacement, a deal that would cost them around €100m (£86m). This hefty fee will provide even further motivation for City to hold to their asking price.

Conclusion

Even with the deal perhaps unlikely to go ahead, Tottenham will still be hopeful that they can capture the signing should City’s position change at all. Given the London club already controversially missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White earlier in the window, failure here would surely be a massive blow to Thomas Frank as he looks to guide Spurs up the table in his first season at the club.
